Jesus ensina que “nenhum servo pode servir a dois senhores”. Daí a afirmação “não podeis servir a Deus e ao dinheiro”. O termo utilizado por Lucas que é traduzido como “dinheiro” é “mammon”, que significa o iníquo, o falso e enganador. Este termo tem a sua origem das línguas bíblicas que indicava tesouro, riqueza, dinheiro, mas depois passou a designar um ídolo ou deus falso.

Os discípulos de Jesus sabem da incompatibilidade radical entre Deus e o dinheiro. Por isso, são chamados a viver o amor a Deus e ao próximo, mesmo os inimigos (cf. Lc 6,27), e desprezar o “mammon” que faz esquecer-se da soberania de Deus.

A primeira carta da Timóteo, que é atribuída a São Paulo, mas não é dele, afirma “que há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: Jesus Cristo, que se fez homem que se entregou em resgate por todos”.

Concluindo a parábola do administrador desonesto, Jesus diz aos discípulos “usai o dinheiro injusto para fazer amigos”. Naquele tempo o administrador não recebia salário, mas acrescentava o seu “lucro” na conta do devedor. Então o que o administrador desonesto fez foi apenas abrir mão do seu “lucro” cobiçado para garantir que os devedores lhe ajudassem no futuro. Na expressão “dinheiro injusto”, Lucas também usa o termo “mammon” indicando que a ganância pelo dinheiro produz iniquidades. Daí a necessidade de liberar-se de toda forma de cobiça.

No tempo do profeta Amós já era notável as injustiças cometidas pelos gananciosos. Por isso, ele denuncia que alguns cheios de cobiça “engolem o pobre, fazem perecer os humildes da terra”, outros agem “diminuindo a medida, aumentando o preço, falseando a balança” e querem “até as sandálias dos pobres… e vender até o refugo do trigo”. Estes gananciosos estavam de joelhos diante do ídolo “mammon” e serviam este senhor que provoca injustiças.

Com esta Palavra, seja do Evangelho, seja das leituras, os cristãos de hoje não precisam ter dúvida da necessidade de viver sem ganâncias e responder ao chamado de Deus quer a partilha, a solidariedade, a justiça no uso dos bens deste mundo para que todos tenham vida digna. A vida é breve e quem coloca a esperança nas riquezas e no dinheiro iníquo acaba no vazio existencial e a morte anula todo poder e todo prestígio que pensava ter.
